NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS ARE DUMB….

...BUT they're good. None of us needs a start of the year to set goals for ourselves.

….BUT THEY’RE GOOD.

None of us needs a start of the year to set goals for ourselves.

The moment you discover a weakness, you discover a goal that requires effort, and luckily it’s legal to set goals outside of the new year.

In particular, there are two things that ARE DUMB about New Year’s resolutions.

First, that the person has already realized their own mistake or weakness, but still needs a fresh start to the year to work on themselves. You can compare it with trying to make your diet healthy but postponing the start for another week to fill your belly again extensively with unhealthy food.
Start the moment you realize your mistake and work continuously towards your goal.

The second reason New Year’s resolutions aren’t too practical is because of the “all or nothing” mentality. For example, if you just started weightlifting and your goal now is to move 200 kg overhead in the next year, that’s ok. Radical approaches fit radical goals, but not all of these goals can be achieved with a crowbar. Your 200 kg may also be one of them.

So be aware that only realistic goals are really achievable. With realistic goals, you will experience more quickly and also more consciously how far you have come, how many new things you have learned along the way to that goal.

Has your technique gotten better, or has working on your goal affected the quality of other things in your life?

If you reach your goal, that’s really good, but you should also register all the good side effects on the way to your goal.

Let’s talk about objectives. These are really similar to a New Year’s resolution, only better adapted to you and your efforts. If we are honest, if it is too easy, then it is unsatisfactory. What you invest in a thing or goal is what you ultimately reap. Nevertheless, we should not make it too complicated. Let’s see the whole thing as a straight line.

We are at point A and our goal is point B, if everything in between were already sufficient, we would have reached our goal. Nevertheless, the route between the points is exactly the place where the successes take place. The many invisible successes that you only perceive unconsciously.

HOW GREAT IS THAT, PLEASE?

Setting a goal and working on it rewards you not only with achieving the goal, but also with many additional improvements. Furthermore, you can also apply this approach outside of your sporting life, it also applies, for example, in terms of personality or professional development!

Even if you have not yet fully achieved the goals you have set, the qualitative work will reward you on the way to the goal. Take everything you can with you, take successes and failures with you – there is something to learn from both.

If you really want something, bite hard and try to achieve it smartly. Hard and honest work is fun and usually pays off.

You can always set goals for yourself every day, don’t set them too low, be reasonable and then many more positive improvements will await you along the way.
