Onyx – Made by Weightlifters for Weightlifters

Danny, the founder of Onyx, has been doing weightlifting himself for years. Most recently, he worked as an assistant coach in a club and wanted to procure colored lifting straps for his members and himself. But even after a long search of the Internet, he did not find what he was looking for and thus made his way to a local leather dealer. There he bought tools, leather, and paint and began to simply manufacture the lifting straps himself. However, the procedure is very complex and time-consuming, so Danny dealt with the most diverse types of leather, which are available in a wide variety of colors. This sealed the foundation and the Onyx brand was launched in 2016.

The team around Danny consists of 5 members, all are weightlifters. “Our vision is to build a company with weightlifters manufacturing products specifically for them.” In addition to lifting straps, Onyx also offers wrist straps and knee sleeves. For months, the products are tested in advance in their own gym, the SoCal Weightlifting in Newport Beach, California.

Neither nylon, which is often rough on the hands, nor cotton, which has short durability, have proven themselves. The wrist wraps from Onyx are neither large nor bulky like the ones from other brands – yet they give the necessary support for cleans and allow sufficient overhead mobility at the same time.

“We believe that sport can make life a better place for people and hope that we can make a big contribution to it.” This applies to the USA as well as overseas. The next development steps are for a weightlifting belt, which is currently still being tested, but already promises a lot. “It could be the best leather belt on the market!”

Onyx goes with the times and now also offers vegan products made of hemp. In the future, there will be everything related to the needs of weightlifters, both in and outside of sports. These include, for example.B clothing, office supplies such as mousepads and beverage coasters or pet equipment such as leashes or collars. “We want to continue to be creative in the things we make. We know that weightlifters also have a life outside of sports and we want them to be able to represent Onyx, a brand that originated out of love of sport, in other areas of their lives.”
